Community Service Learning
Community Service Learning (CSL) is an educational process, which enhances the quality of life within the school and the community. Community Service Learning combines instruction, 21st Century Skills, and voluntary participation in supporting activities or obtaining contributions of goods.
What are the benefits of Community Service Learning for Middle School Students?
Students receive an invaluable learning experience outside of the normal classroom setting.
Service learning places curricular concepts in the context of real-world situations.
Students analyze, evaluate, and synthesize these concepts using problem-solving skills, while at the same time helping their community.
Students generate positive school-community relations and relations within the school.
Students experience a good feeling of people helping people.
Students may receive credit for activities completed the summer prior to 9th grade, provided that appropriate procedures for prior approval as outlined on page 2 of this document are followed.

Student Attendance

Grading Scale

Report cards and interims are issued every nine weeks. Grades can be accessed continuously through PowerSchool. Parents and guardians are encouraged to check grades often.
Honor Roll
Honor roll is calculated each marking period and each semester as well as for final and cumulative (MP1 – MP3) grades. Specific criteria for students’ gaining honor roll status include (but are not limited to) the following:
Students must be taking four academic subjects.
Students may not have a D or an F in any marking period, semester, final, or cumulative grade.
Students with an “I” or an “N” in a course will be flagged for consideration at the school level.
Students’ non-home-school courses will be considered in all calculations.
Note: Honor Roll and GPA are calculated differently. Please see your school counselor for honor roll calculation information.

The HCPS Academic and Career Planning Guide is a student-driven, adult-supported process designed to guide students by creating a personalized vision for life after graduation. Students and parents can explore and implement the path starting at middle school; where they can select career cluster/path, plan student progress and diploma options, and learn more about courses, specialty centers, and programs for graduation.
