MISSION

Elko Middle School is a comprehensive middle school in Henrico County Public Schools. We aim to inspire educational excellence among all students in their journey from middle to high school. To achieve our goal, Elko will increase the percentage of students demonstrating proficiency in grade-level content by 10% in ELA, Math, & Science. Elko Middle School will maintain a Chronic Absenteeism rate below 15%.

Educational excellence will be measured by maintaining full accreditation in our academic program and increasing the number of extracurricular activities and business partnerships in the community. Thank you, parents & guardians. The implementation of the cell phone/electronic, and ID policies has been smooth. It has been an adjustment for students, but they have been compliant with the restrictions. Please continue reinforce the policies so we can ensure students are focused on classes and not distracted by electronics.

Schedule Changes

Elko’s Schedule Change Window closes September 17th, no changes can be requested after the 17th. Please complete a google form requesting a schedule change for your student. https://bit.ly/32odMCS if you have any questions about this form or about the options available to your student, please reach out to your student’s school counselor.

Elko Learning Lab

Learning Lab will start 23rd! Learning Lab is a chance for students to receive in person tutoring for classes that they are struggling with. Learning Lab will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays either before school (7-8am) or after school (3:30 to 5:00pm). You can only sign-up if invited by your teacher. Please contact your teachers for more information.

IB Application – for 6th and 7th Graders

The Middle School IB Program at Fairfield Middle School is accepting applications for next year!!! The window will be open Thursday, September 12th and close Monday, October 7th. 8th Grade Specialty Center - Applications

Specialty Center and ACE center application window is quickly approaching! There is a specialty center or ACE center in Henrico for almost any student. On Monday September 23rd we will have a guest speaker here to talk to our 8th graders about HCPS’ Specialty Centers. School Counseling will also have a table set-up at Back to School Night to answer questions about Specialty Centers.

If your student is interested in a Specialty Center, please plan to attend one of the three open houses here in Henrico. Saturday 9/21 from 10am to 2pm at Highland Springs HS, Thursday 9/26 from 6pm to 8:30pm at Tucker HS, and online as part of the Bridge Builders Academy Tuesday 10/1.

Suicide Prevention Month

Suicide is complicated and tragic, but it is often preventable. Knowing the warning signs of suicide and how to get help can save lives. Life Ready Expo

Henrico’s Life Ready Expo ’24 is back this month better than ever! This year’s district-wide event is on Tuesday, September 24th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Hermitage High School. With over 100 businesses from Virginia’s 17 career clusters represented at the Expo, there is something for everyone to experience!

HCPS ATHLETIC EVENTS POLICY

If you plan to attend HCPS School Athletic Events, please see below.

New Beginning this Friday, backpacks and large tote bags will not be allowed in the stadium. Large bags will be prohibited from all future athletic events as well. Only small bags and purses will be permitted. Later this fall we will transition to a clear bag only policy. More information about those expectations will follow.

All attendees and their bags must pass through weapons scanners and bags will be searched.

Any other attendee who is 18 years of age or under must be accompanied by an adult who is 21 years of age or older. These attendees are expected to remain together throughout the game. Any attendee under the age of 18 who is found to be apart from their accompanying adult at any point may be asked to leave and may be banned from attending future HCPS athletic events.

Students or other patrons who do not comply with these expectations may be prohibited from entering the stadium, may be asked to leave and/or may be prohibited from attending any future HCPS athletic events.
